SonyLIV’s Monthly Report June 2025: It seems like SonyLIV couldn’t keep up the momentum it gained last month. In May 2025, the platform bestowed hit originals such as Kankhajura and Black, White and Gray. These titles not only received a strong reception from audiences but also helped the platform strengthen its content library. However, SonyLIV failed to recreate this magic in June 2025.
SonyLIV dropped only two titles in the month of June 2025, and that too are not originals. Instead, they were licensed titles.
The highly anticipated OTT release of Malayalam blockbuster sports drama, Alappuzha Gymkhana, helped the platform in terms of viewership. Released on April 10 in theatres, the Naslen starrer shattered numerous box-office records during its theatrical run and ended up earning over INR 65 crores. Plus, it received acclaim from critics.
While SonyLIV benefited immensely from Alappuzha Gymkhana, the platform also showed too much reliance on this amazing Khalid Rahman project. As a result, we didn’t get any original projects from the platform in June 2025.
Apart from Alappuzha Gymkhana, SonyLIV dropped Season 3 of the popular Hulu series, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, in June, which received highly positive reviews from the viewers as well.
Season 3 revolves around Mike and Nikki’s return from their honeymoon and Pascal’s release. Soon, the team gets assigned to a new and puzzling case: to find what happened to the five college rowing team members who vanished mid-lake.
While licensed content can boost viewership in the short term, a big OTT platform like SonyLIV in the highly competitive Indian OTT market needs a steady stream of originals to continuously enrich its library and offer diverse choices to its users. Yes, in recent years, the platform has expanded its library with popular and critically acclaimed regional titles, but slowly.
SonyLIV needs to maintain a consistent supply of original shows to stand out from its OTT competitors and expand its subscriber base. Stay tuned for more updates.
