This afternoon, Netflix dropped the first trailer of its next K-Drama, ‘Juvenile Justice‘. The Korean series has been commissioned by Netflix for exclusive streaming on its platform worldwide. Much like Netflix’s previous monstrous hit from South Korea, ‘Squid Game’, Juvenile Justice incorporates all the elements that make Korean dramas such a compelling watch.
Juvenile Justice has a story that is highly innovative, a factor we’ve come to associate with Korean Dramas. A bunch of juveniles, even as young as 14 years old, commit some of the most heinous crimes because they know that the country’s juvenile justice laws will give them a maximum punishment of 2 years only. The trailer shows eerily chilling images of the utterly remorseless juvenile criminals, as they accept the punishment meted out to them for murder and mutilation. Sim Eun-seok (Kim Hye-soo, Hyena), a newly appointed judge who hates juvenile criminals for this very reason, is appointed to the juvenile court.
The series is a damning censure of the glaring class divides in South Korea. South Korean society has a distinctly stark difference between the rich and the poor. The haves lure the have-nots with the temptation of easy money, in order to fulfil their sinister requirements. Recently, Parasite, Squid Game, Snowpiercer, and several other Korean content played around with similar plot lines, to weave gripping dramas.
The Netflix Original series Juvenile Justice is directed by Hong Jong-chan. It also stars Lee Jung-eun (Parasite) as Na Geun-hee, the chief judge of the juvenile division. She brings the twist in the tale. Kim Mu Yeol (Space Sweepers), Lee Sung Min, Park Jong-Hwan, Park Ji Yun, Shin Jae Hwi, among others, comprise the rest of the cast.
