Hit 2020 k-drama Backstreet Rookie finally coming to Netflix India. This South Korean Television series starring Ji Chang-wook and Kim Yoo-jung in lead roles was an SBS original that was earlier available only on iQIYI and Rakuten Viki. To the excitement of Indian K-drama fanatics, the show will stream on Netflix from July 15th.
Based on the 2016-2017 webtoon titled ‘Convenience Store Saet-byul’ written by Hwalhwasan, Backstreet Rookie follows the life of Jung Saet-Byul, a 22-year-old, family loving, beautiful, reto fashionista with amazing fighting skills. She always liked Choi Dae Hyun, a handsome convenience store owner with whom she had a brief yet memorable ordeal during a cigarette errand 3 years ago. Fast forward, Jung Saet Byul applies for a part-time position at Choi Dae Hyun’s convenience store 3 years later. There their love story blooms as they heal their heart and become adults dreaming of a bright future.
The show was caught in a controversy in its domestic territory regarding the way some scenes were shot. However, the show still developed a following once it came on Rakuten and iQiyi. With Netflix also acquiring the show now, fans of Ji Chang-wook can see him as Choi Dae-hyun as well. Meanwhile Sound of Magic on Netflix also stars Ji Chang-wook as a charming magician. Backstreet Rookie will thereby be another addition to the set of Ji Chang-wook dramas already streaming on Netflix India.
