‘My Melbourne’ is an anthology that comes from directors like Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das and Onir. Such a diversity was never seen before in any single Indian film. Rima Das, who is known for her awesome Assamese films like ‘Tora’s Husband’, ‘Bulbul Can Sing’ and ‘Village Rockstars’, is being included in the oeuvre with commercial biggies like Kabir Khan and Imtiaz Ali. Filmmaker and queer icon Onir is also in the list. The names of the director make the movie already interesting and now it is reported that the film will be opening in the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
The movie is a joint production of India and Australia and is produced by Vic Screen and Screen Australia. ‘My Melbourne’ will feature four short films titled ‘Emma’, ‘Jules’, ‘Nandini’ and ‘Setara’.
Rima Das’ film ‘Emma’ will be on the theme of disability and tell the story of a deaf protagonist. Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Jules’ will be the story of two displaced women in the huge city Melbourne. Onir’s ‘Nandini’ will be a story of inclusion and ‘Setara’ from Kabir Khan will talk about a woman who flees from Afghanistan to Australia.
There is still no update on the theatrical release on the movie in India but there might be some news after its premiere in the Melbourne Film Festival.
