Nobody thought that this rivalry would drag on for so long, but Bad Newz is still being overshadowed by Kalki 2898 AD. Released on June 27th, the film is still performing wonders at the box office and shows no signs of slowing down, leaving no room for Bad Newz to spread its wings.
Despite nearing its OTT release, with some sources saying it might be released on August 15th, Kalki 2898 AD is not slowing down.
In terms of ticket sales, Bad Newz and Kalki are racing neck and neck, which shouldn’t have been the case in any realistic scenario. But sometimes, imagination is wilder than reality.
It’s not just the success of Kalki; Bad Newz failed to draw an audience despite having a catchy album and a topic that attracts young people. Even though they did some catchy marketing, the film was not up to the mark, which harmed its performance.
Crew was a big hit despite appealing to an adult audience, and before the release, Bad Newz looked the same. Though it is a hit in terms of numbers, it’s like getting an 80 in math—80 is quite good, but you can push yourself a bit and reach the high 90s.
Even on a Monday, Kalki sold around 19,000 tickets, and Bad Newz sold 19,500 tickets. This is definitely exciting for Kalki, but not quite the same for Bad Newz. The hype is definitely dying down as it will have an OTT release on Prime Video, and it might take off in the OTT space.
But the theatrical run for Bad Newz did resemble its name.
