GV Prakash’s newest Tamil feature film, ‘Kalvan‘, hit theatres on April 4. Directed by cinematographer PV Shankar and backed by the Axess Film Factory, the movie also stars big names like Bharathiraja, and Nivedita.
The plot of the 2.5-hour thriller feature revolves around Kemban, a thief on the lookout for an anti-poaching watcher job. However, his plans are forced to run askew when he finds out that it requires a bribe of Rs. 2 Lakh. The story progresses as the audience ponders over the question: Will he be able to arrange the money?
Viewers’ reactions to the film have been a mix of positive and negative, albeit being more inclined towards positive. After a whopping 3k+ reviews on BookMyShow, the film has a fan rating of 7.2. This rating is expected to be on the rise as the film continues to screen in various theatres across the Southern part of the country. Moreover, most audiences have dubbed the film as an inspiring, well-made, all-rounder perfect family entertainer.
On the other hand, however, the critics’ reviews of Kalvan have been far more lukewarm. Citing the performances as mediocre, coupled with a non-linear narrative, the film has also been called a misfire. Ultimately, only time can tell if Kalvan will persevere against the test of critic reviews as it continues to screen in theatres!
