The current year has been quite exciting so far for Indian movie buffs as fans have witnessed the release of some fine films recently. And amongst those is veteran Indian actor Kamal Haasan’s latest actioner ‘Vikram’. Previously, we had apprised our readers that ‘Vikram’ had made its way to IMDb’s top 250 Indian movies of all time.
And now, in yet another fantastic piece of update for Indian cinephiles, ‘Vikram’ has now entered the top 50 international movies list on the Auckland-based movies-centric social platform Letterboxd. ‘Vikram’ currently holds an impressive 14th rank on the coveted Letterboxd list comprising top 50 feature and documentary films released in the year 2022 from across the globe.
As of now, there are just two Indian films namely S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ (Rank 8) and the Tamil language Indian movie ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’ (Rank 3) which are ahead of ‘Vikram’ on Letterboxd.
This means that ‘Vikram’ has outranked its Indian counterparts such as Amitabh Bachchan starrer sports film ‘Jhund’ (Rank 47), the comedy drama movie ‘Badhaai Do’ (Rank 44) starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, and the Malayalam language political thriller ‘Pada’ (Rank 26).
Not just that, ‘Vikram’ has even surpassed some popular international movies such as the critically acclaimed period adventure film ‘The Northman’ (Rank 18), Apple’s comedy drama ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth’ (Rank 17), and Pixar and Disney’s animated film ‘Turning Red’ (Rank 33), to name a few.
The top two films from 2022 on the Letterboxd list are Peter Jackson’s ‘The Beatles: Get Back – The Rooftop Concert’ (Rank 1) and the widely admired multiverse movie ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ (Rank 2). While Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and the DC superhero movie ‘The Batman’ have bagged Rank 4 and Rank 7, respectively.
Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the star-studded action entertainer ‘Vikram’ features the terrific trio of Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil alongside Suriya in a special cameo. Kamal Haasan has essayed the titular character of a black ops cop named Vikram, who is given the mission to nab a group of masked criminals. The film has grossed over a whopping Rs.375 crores at the box-office worldwide in 18 days since its theatrical release. ‘Vikram’ is expected to start streaming on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform on 8th July.
