Kamathipura – the name evokes visions of grimy lanes, grim faces and grave realities. For those who might wonder why we say this, it is because Kamathipura is India’s largest red-light area and one of the largest in Asia. And now, Amazon Prime Video is set to launch a web series, simply called Kamathipura, on the distinctive place.
And judging from the profession and inevitable destiny of the residents of the dingy labyrinth of lanes that makes up Kamathipura, it is quite obvious that the upcoming web series will be gritty, hard-hitting and uncompromisingly brutal.
Casting for the web series is on in full swing. Meera Chopra, of Section 375 fame, plays a cop who investigates a series of murders that have taken place in Kamathipura. Tanuj Virwani (Inside Edge) does a compelling turn as the antagonist. Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Anang Desai, Chirag Trivedi, Priyanka Khatri and Varun Joshi make up the rest of the cast.
The series is directed by Shravan Kumar and produced by Vision Movie Maker.
Kamathipura will be Amazon Prime Video’s next Indian original release, and will start streaming after next month’s Inside Edge Season 2 is done and dusted with. Concrete dates haven’t been announced yet.
We bet Kamathipura will be one helluva gripping watch. Watch this space at Binge.com for further updates on this news.
