Actress Kangana Ranaut is at it again! After wishing Kareena Kapoor Khan warmly yesterday for the her birthday, fans went into a tizzy speculating that the actress was all ready to let bygones be bygones and make up with the ‘Bollywood Mafia’, as she puts it. However, those rumours barely lasted a day and she has proved that there is no truth to them by attacking star kid and A-list actress Alia Bhatt yet again. Kangana has slammed Alia for her latest Manyavar Mohey ad and taken to social media to write a long post of criticism regarding the same.
Kangana Ranaut, most recently seen in the much anticipated Jayalalitha biopic ‘Thalaivii‘, called out actress Alia Bhatt and her commercial for Manyavar Mohey, that questions the tradition of ‘Kanyadaan’ in a marriage. In the advertisement, Alia is seen as a bride, wondering if women represent ‘paraya dhan’ (someone else’s wealth) meant to be given away by a father to another man (husband) during the wedding proceedings, that is referred to as ‘Kanyadaan’. The commercial ends with a hard-hitting punch line from the bride saying: “‘Kanya daan nahin, kanya maan’ (Don’t give your daughter away as a gift, but out of respect).”
Kangana put up a long post on her Instagram account, stating the importance of tradition and the history of the ‘Kanyadaan’ custom in Hindu culture. She also accused the brand of engaging in an ‘anti-Hindu propaganda’, encouraging her followers to seek a ban on the ad. Captioning her post, Kangana wrote, “Humble request to all brands… don’t use religion, minority, majority politics to sell things… Stop manipulating naive consumers with shrewd divisive concepts and advertising.” She also shared her Instagram story as another post, where she explained Hindu marriage traditions, adding the caption, “Don’t become a pest who loves to abuse and condemn Hinduism just because it is the most tolerant religion.”
One thing is sure, Kangana doesn’t leave a stone unturned when it comes to criticizing and slamming Bollywood and star kids who according to her, are products of nepotism. Also, somehow opportunities always seem to come her way. It will be interesting to see how Manyavar Mohey and actress Alia respond to her comments, if they do.
