Kangana’s Scathing Attack On Censor Board’s Ignorance To OTTs

Kangana’s Scathing Attack On Censor Board’s Ignorance To OTTs

Kangana’s latest film Emergency was about to be released on 6th September. But due to another complaint and guidelines from the censor board, it has been postponed as of now. The film was originally supposed to be released a year ago but due to the truffle with censor board was postponed to June this year, then August and then early-September.

Another situation concerning the censorship and content regulations has emerged with Netflix’s new original series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. The creators have been accused to have used incorrect names for the hijackers (Bhola and Shankar) that are hurting the sentiments of Hindu people.

Kangana was asked about the same where her film is stalling due to censorship and OTT platforms stay unregulated. In reply she went as far to consider the CBFC as a “redundant body”. She added “Technologically, the place we are at, censor board, to be honest, has become a redundant body. I raised the same thing during the previous parliament session as well”. She focused on the importance of censoring OTT as children too can get exposed to a lot of bad things if such platforms go unchecked by CBFC.

She further said, “The kind of things that are being shown on OTT… The kind of things kids have access to on YouTube, sometimes we are scared what a kid might stumble upon. Just by paying money, you can access any channel you want. This is quite worrisome. We struggle so much with the censor that ‘why did you show blood? why did you have that cut?’ So I think we need to rethink. The one who needs censorship the most is OTT platforms.”

But these comments seem to be very superficial, considering the fact that the claims on IC 814 are wrong. As per ministry reports, the names they have used were indeed the code names of the hijackers. Kangana seems to be frustrated by the CBFC now as her film has been stalled for almost a year due to problems with the board. She is scathingly attacking the censor board probably to vent out her frustration.

Also, Kangana probably is trying to look for opportunities to create controversies and somehow remain in the limelight. Calling the censor board as ‘redundant’ probably will result in the same. Stalling the film again and again too seems to be of the same intention. By doing all this, maybe she wishes to create a buzz around her film which will elevate the chances of her film going big.
