Although short-films are often overlooked and overshadowed by other mainstream cinema, they are one of the true tellers of a master storyteller. Some of the best short films helmed by Indian directors include ‘Ahalya’, ‘Interior Cafe Night’, ‘Kriti’, ‘Afterglow’, ‘Positive’, and more, all of which are available to stream on YouTube.
Along the same lines is debutant filmmaker Rajesh Ramaswamy’s 17-minute Kannada- language short film ‘Iruve’. Featuring actors Dattanna and Mahantesh in the leading roles, the short-film is based around two very intriguing themes: an ant infestation and a pending payment.
Also available to stream on YouTube, the 17-minute long well-received film follows an elderly man who refuses to pay the technician who rids his home of an ant infestation outright, and asks him to come back for the payment a week later. One condition: the payment will only be made if the service has been rendered successfully.
Described by the filmmaker as a situational comedy, the aftermath of the pest control service can be related to by viewers of all cultural backgrounds, irrespective of the language barrier.
With not a large number of views so far since its release on August 21, the short film falls under the category of a hidden gem. With that being said, what are you waiting for? Go stream the film now!
