The iconic Kannagi from Silapathikaram left an indelible mark not only on history but also on literature and artwork throughout the course of history. Recently, Kollywood witnessed a movie with a title inspired by this woman icon, and has received mixed response from the audience and critics alike. ‘Kannagi’, a women-centric Tamil film, is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Directed by Yashwanth Kishore as a debut, ‘Kannagi’ is a film that portrays the lives of four women, whose lives are shaped by societal opinions and the narrative is all about how their lives are changed all together by external cues. ‘Kannagi’ was released in theaters on 15 December 2023 and produced by M.Ganesh and J.Dhanush under the production banners Sky Moon Entertainment and E5 Entertainment.
As per the audiences’ reviews, ‘Kannagi’ included a fresh narrative on struggles faced by women with a modern twist. Although the climax seems to be a bit off and not-so-compelling, ‘Kannagi’ can be a good watch for you this weekend. The movie is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video India from February 2nd.
The performance by Keerthi Pandian, Ammu Abhirami, Vidya Pradeep, Shaalin Zoya and Mayilsamy is praiseworthy, shadowing the ill reviews from the critics on the movie. The music of the film is composed by Shaan Rahman. With new faces in the industry teaming up for the movie, it is good to acknowledge such talents by watching ‘Kannagi’ on Prime Video if you have missed the theatrical release.
