Parmish Verma’s Kanneda debuted on JioHotstar on March 21, and we’ve compiled plenty of first reactions from viewers and critics about the show. Without further ado, let’s find out whether the series is binge-worthy or not. Yes, all episodes are now streaming on JioHotstar.
Kanneda is undoubtedly one of the first and biggest projects to emerge from JioHotstar’s arsenal in the post-Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema era. The newly merged OTT entity heavily marketed the series before its release. Well, it’s about time we found out how it fared among audiences.
The latest Parmish Verma starrer has received mixed reviews from both critics and viewers, who praised its performances, intensity, and rawness. The leading man, in particular, has been singled out for his gripping performance. The rest of the cast, including Ranvir Shorey, Arunoday Singh, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Aadar Malik, and Jasmin Bajwa, have done a commendable job as well.
However, Kanneda falls short in terms of narration and storyline. Many viewers have criticised its clichéd and unoriginal plot, which lacks freshness and offers nothing new. Moreover, some have even lamented the series’ portrayal of Canada in a negative light, depicting it as a drug hub. Weak dialogue is another factor that prevents the series from soaring.
The biggest flaw of the series is its lack of focus on the struggles of Sikh immigrants in Canada, instead placing more emphasis on the country’s overused portrayal as a center of drug and crime activity.
