Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine As Light’ has officially been declared the winner of the prestigious Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival! The felicitation is awarded to a feature in the competition slate, as a runner-up to the Palme d’Or.
Not only was this debut India’s first competing title at the festival in over three decades, it was also the country’s first win in the celebrated category in over half a century.
After its premiere on May 23, the film received a hearty eight-minute-long standing ovation and further went on to garner widespread critical acclaim. Numerous viewers hailed the film as a masterpiece, compared it to the works of legends of the festival, and described it as the freshest perspective on the mundanity of life.
The internationally funded Indo-French production focuses on the connections between three Mumbai women of different ages and classes. Not only has this exceptional feat set an all-time-high bar for Indian cinema, it has left an everlasting mark on the world!
