Ever since Nandita Das’s slice-of-life drama ‘Zwigato’ made its world premiere last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and until its theatrical release in India, the film has been receiving widespread critical acclaim from the film fraternity and cinephiles. However, the fantastic word-of-mouth for the movie hasn’t exactly set the box office on fire.
In case you are unable to watch ‘Zwigato’ in theatres for any reason, you can also watch it on an OTT platform after the movie completes its theatrical run. Until now, the makers have not officially revealed the streaming platform.
But we have got an inkling that ‘Zwigato’ will most likely release on the SonyLIV OTT platform. We think so because a couple of days back, we saw that the OTT platform had tweeted about the film in which the film’s lead actor Kapil Sharma’s performance was praised. However, later, the Tweet was deleted by SonyLIV. It’s unlikely that it’s just a coincidence.
Moreover, Kapil Sharma’s longstanding and immensely popular stand-up comedy talk show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ airs on Sony’s television channel and also streams on the SonyLIV OTT platform. A few days back, the Zwigato team were also called as guests on the show. So, Kapil Sharma’s long association with Sony could also be a reason for SonyLIV becoming the streaming home to his latest acting venture ‘Zwigato’ which features him in a never-seen-before avatar. The entertainer already has a cult fan base on both Sony’s TV and OTT platforms.
Written and directed by actor-filmmaker Nandita Das and set in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the movie narrates a bittersweet tale of a married couple (played by Kapil Sharma and Shahana Goswami) and their persistent struggles to make a living in the post-pandemic era. In the film, Kapil Sharma has essayed the role of a food delivery rider who has lost his factory manager job in the pandemic and how his homemaker wife tries to support his income by starting to work herself.
