Rohit Dhawan’s forthcoming directorial feature film ‘Shehzada’ starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead role has arrived in theatres today alongside the high-profile Marvel superhero movie ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’. And with SRK’s ‘Pathaan’ still running theatres and that too at today’s flat ticket price of just Rs.110/-, it looks like ‘Shehzada’ has found itself in a tough spot now.
And apparently because of that and with the previously reported underwhelming advance ticket sales, the concerned stakeholders of ‘Shehzada’ have adopted an unusual and seemingly desperate marketing strategy for selling their movie tickets to the prospective audiences and pulling them to the theatres.
On popular movie ticketing portal BookMyShow, today, the tickets for ‘Shehzada’ are being offered on a ‘Buy One And Get One Ticket Free’ basis. We can’t recollect that in recent times, any other Hindi film has resorted to this kind of ticket sales strategy on BMS and that too on the film’s first day of theatrical release.
One reason could be that the makers of ‘Shehzada’ already know that their film’s box-office prospect is now sandwiched between the two biggies ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’. And that they just wanted an initial momentum and for people to watch it in the first few days in theatres and let good word-of-mouth do the rest. Even if it means that this offer will bring their ticket sales revenues through BMS to half. Moreover, the move might be intended to counter Pathaan’s reduced ticket price.
Now, all eyes will be on Shehzada’s box-office performance and whether it can cross the break-even point and eventually become a commercial success and not just a theatrical hit? We still think ‘Shehzada’ has the potential to break-even especially considering the box-office performance of Kartik Aaryan’s last theatrical release ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’. However, the real verdict will be out soon.
‘Shehzada’ features Kartik Aaryan as the protagonist who learns that his biological father is actually a super-rich businessman. He then decides to approach their biological parents and intends to protect them from imminent dangers. The movie also features Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal, Ronit Roy, and Manisha Koirala in pivotal rol
