Indians are well aware of the word Katla because of the fish breed. But what we are talking about has nothing to do with the fish!
Katla (2021) is actually an extremely active volcano in Iceland that has caused severe massacres throughout centuries. The problem is so severe that it has found a place in many folklores that continue to haunt the isolated places of Iceland.
There is a Netflix series called “Katla”. It is exceptionally beautiful and is missing the notice of the Indian masses. The series is originally in the Icelandic language but is also available in dubbed English audio.
The series is based on folktales of the region thus Indians may not be able to connect to it. But that’s the thing about folklores. You feel the essence even if it is not even remotely related to your customs. You can take the example of Kantara, it is extremely rooted in its culture but it was greatly celebrated in all the regions of India.
The cast includes Guðrún Eyfjörð, Íris Tanja, Flygenring, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Aliette Opheim, Valter Skarsgård, Aldís Amah Hamilton, Þorsteinn Bachmann and more.
So is true about Katla. The Katla volcano erupts and strange things start happening. Even though a few people live in the nearby village, they find a woman who is swamped inside coal ash. She was reported to have disappeared 20 years back but was found in the same condition without aging.
Well, it was just the start of many strange events. Katla is absolutely brilliant in its storytelling and is as beautiful as it can be. Interestingly, you may find a certain eeriness in that beauty which is very rare.
Thus Katla is watchable in every aspect. So you should not miss it at all.
