The much anticipated fourth installment of the neo-noir John Wick action film series titled ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ has again received a new release date. The film has now been postponed for a 24th March 2023 theatrical release instead of the previously planned 27th May 2022 release. So, the film has been delayed by almost ten months.
The update was made known through a recently released teaser for the film by Lionsgate. And this is not the first time the ‘John Wick’ sequel has been delayed as previously too, the film was postponed from an earlier release date of May 2021 owing to the pandemic and also because its lead actor Keanu Reeves was busy with ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’.
The apparent reason regarding the latest postponement is that on 27th May 2022, the Tom Cruise starrer highly anticipated ‘Top Gun’ sequel titled ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is also scheduled to release. So, it made sense for either of these two high-profile films with top-notch lead actors to modify their release date strategy.
However, its clash with ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ does not seem to be the only reason for the postponement of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’. Because, as per the latest buzz, the film had to be postponed for 2023 owing to a break in production and additional filming was to happen in Japan. The film had initially commenced production in Berlin and Paris earlier this year in June.
Like the first three films, the fourth installment of the John Wick franchise ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ will also be helmed by stunt coordinator turned director Chad Stahelski. It’s a direct sequel to the 2019 film ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’. The film stars Keanu Reeves as an elite assassin who is now being chased by the High Table and also features Lawrence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Lance Riddick, and Clancy Brown.
Besides ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, a three-part miniseries ‘The Continental’, that revolves around the titular hotel of the John Wick universe, is also being concurrently developed.
