It’s always an intriguing project when top Hollywood A-listers come together for a show for a streaming biggie. The latest show that fulfils all of the above criteria is Hulu’s series adaptation of Erik Larson’s 2003 best-selling true-crime non-fiction novel, ‘The Devil In The White City’. Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are the names behind the big-budget Hulu series. The latest development in the making of ‘The Devil In The White City’ series is that Keanu Reeves is in advanced talks to star in it as one of the two primary characters of the story.
‘The Devil In The White City’ will mark the debut of Keanu Reeves in a streaming TV show. The series is in development at Hulu since 2019. Leonardo DiCaprio had bought the rights to Erik Larson’s best-selling book back in 2010. DiCaprio had earlier planned to convert it into a feature film, with Paramount to produce and Martin Scorsese set to direct. But the film was a non-starter and the book is now all set to become a big-budget series at American streamer, Hulu.
Erik Larson’s ‘The Devil In The White City’ is a painstakingly researched novel-style work on the true story of two disparate men who became synonymous with the historic Chicago ‘World’s Fair’ of 1893. One was Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect who designed the iconic World’s Fair. The other was Henry H. Holmes, a charming doctor who is widely regarded as the first serial killer of the modern world.
The 1893 World’s Fair of Chicago was held to celebrate 500 years of Christopher Columbus’ discovery of the Americas. Brilliant architect Daniel H. Burnham designed the fair, whose centrepiece was a massive water pool that recreated Christopher Columbus’ historic 1493 voyage. Around the same time as the Chicago World’s Fair, a series of brutal murders took place in the city that shocked the city and the country. The killer was identified as Dr. Henry Howard Holmes or H. H. Holmes, a charming and cunning doctor who committed the murders in a building located close to the fair grounds. The building became notorious as ‘The Murder Castle’, where Holmes held young women whom he reportedly tortured and murdered.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese executive producing ‘The Devil In The White City’ series for Hulu. Paramount TV Studios is producing the series. ABC Signature and Appian Way are the co-producers. Actor – director Todd Field (In The Bedroom, Little Children) will direct the first two episodes of the limited series. Sam Shaw (Masters Of Sex, Castle Rock, Manhattan) is writing the screenplay of the series adaptation of ‘The Devil In The White City’.
