Netflix has announced that it will adapt Keanu Reeves’ comic book ‘BRZRKR’ both into a live-action feature film and an anime spinoff series. The global streaming giant, in a first-look deal with the BOOM! Studios, has acquired the rights to the comic book ‘BRZRKR’ for the film and the animated television series.
BRZRKR has been created by Reeves and is based on an original idea he had been developing for many years. Reeves has co-written the comic with New York Times bestselling writer Matt Kindt. It is illustrated by famed Marvel artist Ron Garney with colors by Bill Crabtree, letters by Clem Robins, and character designs and covers by Rafael Grampá.
As per Netflix, BRZRKR is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The man known only as “B” is half-mortal and half-god, , cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.
Keanu Reeves will not only star in the film version but will also reprise his role and voice his character in the anime spinoff series, which will further expand the BRZRKR universe by exploring different elements of the story.
Keanu Reeves, BOOM! Studios’ Ross Richie and Stephen Christy, Company Films’ Stephen Hamel will bankroll BRZRKR for Netflix. Adam Yoelin for BOOM! Studios will serve as executive producer.
Among his upcoming projects, Keanu Reeves recently finished the production of ‘Matrix 4’, releasing later this year and will begin the production of ‘John Wick 4’ this spring.
BRZRKR a 12-issue limited series published by Boom! Studios, with the first issue having launched on March 3, 2021. The inaugural issue has already sold over 615,000, making it the highest-selling launch in almost thirty years.
Netflix has not revealed any further cast, crew and release date information for the live-action and animated series adaptation of BRZRKR.
