Fahadh Faasil‘s much awaited film ‘Malayankunju‘ is all set to release on 22nd July. The survival thriller marks the comeback of Music Maestro AR Rahman to Malayalam cinema, after around 30 years. With hardly two days ahead of its release, there are certain pointers viewers should keep in mind before booking their tickets. Of which one of them is a strong warning. Here’s a strong reminder to consider the makers’ warning before you head to the movies.
This Sajimon Prabhakaran directorial is clearly not recommended for those who have claustrophobia. The Malayankunju team posted a note that read:
” Please restrain from watching our movie ‘Malayankunju’ in theatres if you identify with claustrophobia. This film contains visuals that may trigger your fear for confined spaces. Watch only if you’d like to face them head-on. ”
Now, the makers posted this warning note alongside the second trailer release. However this we believe is a pointer everyone needs to be aware of much closer to the release too. Apparently actor Fahadh Faasil also revealed in interviews how he shot for major parts of the film where he had to face breathing difficulties. The artificial tunnel-like-set up constructed for the shoot was around 40 feet below too. So viewers should know this is some serious deal before heading to the ticket counter. A R Rahman’s gut-piercing score is only going to make the experience even more suffocating and claustrophobic. So if any of you identifies with fear of confided spaces, please take a break from the film as the content might make you uncomfortable.
The film is centred on a real landslide that took place in the high ranges of Kerala (Idukki) followed by catastrophic floods few years ago. Fahadh Faasil plays ‘Anikuttan’, an obnoxious electrician who gets trapped in the landslide and the movie shows his survival and escape.
The survival thriller stars Fahadh Faasil and Rajisha Vijayan in lead roles. Indrans, Jaffar Idukki and Deepak Parambol also appear in prominent roles. Malayankunju is directed by Sajimon Prabhakar and produced by Fazil. Mahesh Narayanan wrote the script and also worked as the cinematographer in the film. The streaming rights of Malayankunju is apparently with Amazon Prime Video but there’s no official confirmation so far on the same. Stay tuned.
