The evolution of technology has indeed given people new and innovative ideas to do their work. Paparazzi are no exception. Do you remember those times when leaked photos flooded social media from the sets of Deadpool & Wolverine? While these leaks undoubtedly provided some intriguing glimpses into the upcoming MCU entry, seeing too many of them was definitely irritating. For many fans, the deluge of photos spoiled the anticipation surrounding the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer. MCU architect Kevin Feige even addressed this issue in a recent interview with Variety.
While talking to Variety, Feige was asked about his opinions on the leaked images from the sets of Deadpool & Wolverine. Instead of filming inside close studio environments and around green screens, Marvel Studios opted to use more real locations for filming. According to Feige, those locations were “important” for the creative team and he isn’t worried about those leaked images at all. This is what he said:
“That was very important to us. We didn’t want this to be a green screen box for all of the locations. We want it to be out in the real world, and that always comes with potential tradeoffs. We were in a lot of secure locations and places that were far away from prying eyes — with the exception of drones. It was a new experience for me to have paparazzi drones flying over set. Sometimes things look cool in a behind-the-scenes photo, but most often, they don’t look great. I think people are savvy enough over the years to know that’s not what it will look like in the movie.”
Marvel Studios deserves credit for embracing real locations in Deadpool & Wolverine. Within the Multiverse Saga, Eternals stands out for its extensive use of real-world settings. While Angelina Jolie’s film wasn’t without flaws, the decision to shoot on real locations undoubtedly contributed to its immersive viewing experience.
Director Chloé Zhao wanted the film to feel immersive and grounded. Shooting on location with natural light and backgrounds helped create a more believable world for these powerful characters. Marvel filmed Deadpool & Wolverine in places like Vancouver, Canada, and the English countryside of Norfolk, offering a variety in settings for the action sequences. This will certainly provide a strong sense of authenticity to viewers while watching the movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive in theatres worldwide on July 26. Stay tuned for more updates.
