Recently, Kannada star Kiccha Sudeep stirred up a storm by making a controversial statement at a film function. Speaking about the smashing success of KGF Chapter 2, Kiccha Sudeep said, “Hindi is no more a national language.” He added fat to the fire by saying further, “Bollywood is struggling to make pan India films by dubbing their films in Tamil and Telugu, but they’re not finding success.”
Until now, Bollywood refused to be provoked with Kiccha Sudeep’s controversial statements. But now actor Ajay Devgn has broken the silence and posted an equally controversial reply on Twitter, to Kiccha Sudeep’s statement.
Ajay Devgn wrote in Hindi,
“Sudeep, my brother, if Hindi is not our National language, then why do you dub your mother tongue movies and release them in Hindi?”
He added, “Hindi was, is and will remain our mother tongue and National language”.

No sooner did Ajay Devgn post this tweet, than it was flooded with replies, dissing the actor for his stand.
“FYI, There is no national language in India. @KicchaSudeep was absolutely right. Hindi is another official language of our country and we have all rights to release our films in any language”, wrote one user.
Another said, “Doesn’t make sense, even English movies release in Hindi language in india.
There is no National language in india, that’s the beauty of our nation, celebrating the diversity without imposing thoughts on others.
Don’t do petty politics bro.”
Another reader asked Ajay Devgn, “Who are you to say Kiccha Sudeep should not release his movies by dubbing in Hindi? Hindi is not our National language, Hindi is just an official language of India like Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, etc.”
Yet another Twitter user asked, “Can you please justify as to how hindi is a national language? Kiccha Sudeep sir is right and facts cannot be rewritten just as per your thoughts. The larger domain of people speaking a language being official in terms of indian system does not make it a national language.”
Journalist Rajsekhar replied, Firstly, Hindi is not our National language. If you have the right to question @KicchaSudeep’s decision to dub his film in Hindi, you should not have remade Tamil and Malayalam films and tasted blockbusters in your career!”
Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla wrote, “Hindi is NOT THE NATIONAL language of India, it is an “Official Language”. You need to be responsible about what you put out. Also @ajaydevgn – you reside in Mumbai & it is an insult to Maharashtra if you term one language as our national language over others including Marathi!”
Ajay Devgn’s tweet had garnered 2143 quote tweets and thousands of comments till the time of writing this story. More comments are pouring in, with verified influencers from the South (Tamil and Telugu) giving their two bits on the matter. Bollywood influencers, meanwhile, are maintaining radio silence on the matter.
The South is already on boil against what they perceive to be ‘Hindi imposition’ by the Centre. Ajay Devgn has waded into a burning topic and receiving Twitter brickbats by the dozen. We just hope the controversy doesn’t affect the box office collections of his upcoming film, ‘Runway 34’, due to release in theatres this Friday.
