The norm is that every Indian movie that is set to stream on Disney+Hotstar starts streaming on Hulu in the USA. It is a part of the transactional relationship the platforms share with each other. So, what’s the problem?
You must be aware of “Kill”. The movie by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment is a rage on OTT as it couldn’t do well despite extremely positive views during its theatrical run. The movie is a different kind of success as it is getting a Hollywood remake by the director of John Wick even if we forget the highly mediocre box office run in India.
However, the makers missed the opportunity to leave a global impact by releasing it on OTT. Needless to say, Disney+Hotstar is a very desi platform and it is available in India and a few other South Asian countries. But it is non-existent in a country like the USA.
So, contents that are made by Disney+Hotstar are available to stream on Hulu just the way Hulu contents like “Only Murders in the Building” and “Prey” are available to stream in India through Disney+Hotstar.
Strangely Hulu is not streaming Kill. A possible reason could be the upcoming remake in Hollywood, but if it is not the issue, then it is a big time loss for the film. The US audience might as well love the film.
