Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is all set for a solid box-office opening. However, the film’s opening weekend collections may not surpass its predecessors. The Wes Ball directional will take place 300 years after the War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). Humans have been regressed into a primitive state by Apes, whereas the latter have taken control of the Earth. One of the ape leaders, Proximus Caesar, corrupts Caesar’s teachings to rule over other clans to look for remaining human beings and remnants of their technologies. This forces a young chimpanzee, Noa, to step up against Proximus Caesar.
As per Deadline, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is expected to collect $54-$61 million in its opening weekend in the US and Canada, which seems impressive. The film could match or reach near the opening weekend collections of ‘Rise’ (2011) and ‘War’ (2017), which opened with $54.8 million and $56.3 million, respectively. However, it may fail to surpass the opening weekend collections of ‘Dawn’ (2014) – $72.6 million.
In terms of collections, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the highest-grossing ‘Apes’ movie, with a worldwide collection of over $710 million. ‘War’ and ‘Rise’ minted nearly $490 million and $482 million during their respective theatrical runs.
Considering the above analysis, it seems like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes may perform well at the global box office. However, it will face stiff competition from The Fall Guy, IF, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and The Garfield Movie in May. Let’s see what happens. Stay tuned for more updates.
