Pathaan is breaking records with its collection and the audience is loving the comeback of the King Khan. It is very natural that when a movie has such a hype, other films will not be able to do much business. Many Hindi films like ‘Gandhi Vs Godse’ are struggling to collect their budget. Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat’ that is about to release is missing the hype that it deserves. The release date of Shehzada is postponed. But apart from all these, there is one more problem that regional filmmakers are facing. It is the very unfair deal of Pathaan producers with the multiplex halls.
Filmmakers like Koushik Ganguly and producers like Rana Sarkar took to Twitter and Facebook to protest against this partiality of producers and distributors of Pathaan. Koushik Ganguly claims that whenever the distributors of such big Bollywood films make a deal with the multiplex owners, they want the halls for all movie slots, so that no other movie can run there when it is still in hype. Single screen halls, however, can show whatever movies they please. It can be a great business strategy for that film, but it definitely affects the other films that do not have that huge budget.
Pathaan is being loved by audiences all over India and in West Bengal too the craze is huge. If there were more cinema halls in the state, West Bengal would have easily surpassed other states in terms of Pathaan’s collection. Local films, despite having a separate and a very dedicated fan base are getting affected because the movies are not getting enough screens. ‘Kaberi Antordhan Rohoshyo’, a film by Koushik Ganguly, starring stalwarts like Prasenjit Chattopadhyay, is suffering at the box office despite being loved by audiences. The makers claim that the shows of the film are houseful and had it been given more screens in multiplexes, it could have done a better business.
