Koffee With Karan S7 Goes All Shy On Us; And That Too On OTT!

Koffee With Karan S7 Goes All Shy On Us; And That Too On OTT!

Karan Johar‘s hugely popular celeb chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’ has always been synonymous with controversy. The chatter on the show has always been cheeky and irreverent. And the banter between Karan Johar and his eclectic guests has always been peppered with spicy gossip on B-town folk. Past seasons of Koffee With Karan have stirred up the hornet’s nest – not once, not twice, but on numerous occasions – too many to be counted.

Despite sh*t hitting the ceiling several times due to the controversies stirred up by Koffee With Karan, the fact is — fans and followers of Koffee With Karan would want it no other way! The irreverence, the complete disregard for genteel sophistication, the tongue-in-cheek humour, the biting sarcasm, and finally, the “nudge nudge wink wink” references to rival actors in the industry — these have been standard elements on every Koffee With Karan season. And these are what have earned the show its massive following among audiences.

The ‘Rapid Fire Round’ has been to die for — it brings out the fangs and draws out the claws of even the most decorous and dignified stars of Bollywood. The questions are designed to provoke….and the stars on the Koffee With Karan couch have always gotten provoked without exception.

However, when you sit down to watch the new Koffee With Karan Season 7, you realise that the show whose middle name was controversy has suddenly gone all shy on us. Not a single moment in the long, one-hour runtime of Koffee With Karan Season 7 Episode 1 threatened to snowball into a talking point, let alone a controversy. And this when the show has now shifted, lock stock and barrel, to OTT! Everyone knows that OTT entertainment, with its lack of censorship, is the place where anything and everything goes!

Not for Koffee With Karan Season 7, however. We are disappointed to inform you that the new season of Koffee With Karan is as staid as a newlywed bride back in the 1950s. Gone is the chutzpah, the provocative banter, the rapid fire questions designed to open up otherwise zipped lips.

In its place is a Koffee (With Karan) we barely recognise – tepid, watered down, a shadow of its former self. There is no controversial talk, no cheeky humour – nothing. It seems like a Taran Adarsh-esque chat show, masquerading as a Karan Johar affair. In other words – it is ewww!

This, despite having two of the most outspoken Bollywood stars – Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt – to open Koffee With Karan Season 7. The new season is glaringly lacking in the energetic buzz and dynamism of past seasons.

May be it is the after-effects of the devastating pandemic. Or the flak that Bollywood and its flag bearers have received in the past two years. Or the increased focus on choosing your words carefully post Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely death.

Whatever may be the reason, Koffee With Karan Season 7 is simply not the same show we have grown to love so much. It’s almost as if it houses an old, jaded soul in a still glamorous body. We hope Koffee With Karan returns in its original, badass, controversy-courting avatar soon, to entertain its fans like always.

Until then, let’s keep the Koffee brewing, shall we!
