Amidst anticipation and speculation, the beloved Rajinikanth-led film, ‘Jailer,’ is slated for a second installment. Director Nelson Dilipkumar has already embarked on scripting this eagerly awaited sequel, which centers on a retired jailer grappling with a smuggling investigation involving his son.
Following its resounding success, particularly in South India, where it emerged as the sixth highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, ‘Jailer’ remains a cultural phenomenon. Reports confirm that the original cast, including Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, is set to reunite for the sequel. However, whether the upcoming film will serve as a prequel or a sequel remains undisclosed, adding to the intrigue surrounding its development.
Despite facing criticism after the lukewarm reception of his film ‘Beast,’ Nelson’s collaboration with Rajinikanth in ‘Jailer’ underscores his directorial prowess. Undeterred by skepticism, Rajinikanth and Sun Pictures continue to place their confidence in Nelson’s vision, a bet that has consistently paid dividends. Tentatively titled “Hukum,” taking after the hit song from the original film, the sequel is poised to captivate audiences anew. With pre-production slated to commence in June 2024 and Rajinikanth’s commitment to the project following his current endeavors with Coolie, ‘Jailer 2’ promises to set screens ablaze by late 2024 or early 2025.
