Kung Fu Panda 4 is all set to arrive in theatres worldwide on March 8. Prominent movie ratings platform Rotten Tomatoes has revealed the score of the latest Jack Black starrer. While the film has earned a ‘fresh’ title on the platform, its score is what will worry many fans.
The fourth entry in DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda film franchise has received a ‘fresh’ score of 72%, based on 50 reviews, which is significantly lower than all of its predecessors. This score may go down as more reviews will pour in after the film’s theatrical release.
Kung Fu Panda (2008), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), and Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) stand at ‘fresh’ scores of 87% (190 reviews), 81% (185 reviews), and 87% (179 reviews), respectively. Compared to these ratings, the fourth entry’s score looks weak.
One of the most noticeable criticisms faced by Kung Fu Panda 4 is the lack of presence of the popular secondary characters voiced by Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Lucy Liu (Viper), Seth Rogen (Mantis), David Cross (Crane), and Randall Duk Kim (Master Oogway). In addition, many critics have pointed out that the leading duo of Jack Black and Awkwafina (who voiced Zhen, a fox) is not enough to save the film. However, it has received acclaim for its visuals and fight sequences.
Helmed by Mike Mitchell, Kung Fu Panda 4 stars Jack Black, Awkwafina, Viola Davis, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, Bryan Cranston, Ian McShane, and Ke Huy Quan. Stay tuned for more updates.
