Mollywood superstar, Dulquer Salman has made a name for himself for his multiple onscreen performances on the silver screen, most of the portrayals being various versions of a young care-free (and rebellious, in some cases) protagonist. This time however, Dulquer will be playing a very different role as the titular character in his upcoming theater releasing feature – ‘Kurup’, a real-life, notorious criminal from Kerala.
‘Kurup’ will follow the life of the alleged murderer and urban legend, Sukumara Kurup. Quite an infamous name, even now, among Keralites, Sukumara Kurup was one of the biggest, most wanted criminals in India. The film will also heavily feature the “Chacko murder”, which is one of the reasons why he became a legend in the first place. Allegedly, Sukumara Kurup killed Chacko, a man who shared many physical traits with Kurup, in order to fake his own death and collect his insurance money. The Chacko Murder case is one of the longest-standing cases in the Kerala judicial history and Kurup has been on the run since January 1984.
This drastic change in selection of role will definitely alter Dulquer’s current career trajectory, but with the way Kurup has been portrayed by Dulquer in the trailer so far, there is nothing much left to be desired. Dulquer is effortlessly charming and intimidating at the same time and he pulls off the 80s look really well. Still, this will be Dulquer’s toughest role yet and we hope he knocks it out of the park.
The trailer was released by the lead star himself on his official twitter account, a few days ago. Produced by the film’s star himself, Dulquer through his production company, Wayfarer films, ‘Kurup’ went on to be shot in various parts of India and the Middle East. Check out the tweet featuring the trailer at the end of this article.
Dulquer Salman’s much anticipated Malayalam biographical crime thriller, ‘Kurup’ will premiere in theaters on May 28th 2021, and it will also have Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada dubbed versions available for viewing.
