‘Varane Avashyamund‘ and ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’ were the last films to feature Dulquer Salmaan in a lead role. Both films did well in the box office, especially the second feature film and the actor was expected to be part of another huge Mollywood Box Office film in ‘Kurup’. Alas, the pandemic struck and the actor has been “out of action” ever since. The actor did a cameo role in his first film production, ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’, however, but it wasn’t a role worth mentioning, neither was the film. When ‘Kurup’ finally releases, it will be Dulquer Salmaan’s first lead role after 18 months.
Of course, saying that the actor has “returned” to mainstream cinema is slightly ridiculous as he never left the film industry, to begin with. Dulquer Salmaan’s acting career was a victim to Covid-19 and its subsequent waves and there is nothing he could do about it, like many other actors like him. He is an actor who is regularly a part of big productions and he was just unfortunate that now is not the time for those films to release in theatres.
The actor, however, is a part of one of the most anticipated Malayalam movies of 2020 – ‘Kurup’ and we are sure that the movie will be watched by many, no matter the mode of release. But with the way things are going – with the upcoming third wave of the coronavirus and ongoing flood alerts – the actor should prepare for a direct-to-OTT release for the historical crime drama if he wants the movie to release in 2021. For now, we will have to wait and see.
