Amazon Prime Video and South Indian films have been going hand-in-hand lately, especially the direct-to-OTT released feature films in 2021. With films like ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Joji’, ‘Narappa’ and ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ releasing on Amazon Prime Video, the OTT platform has been fortunate enough to land the streaming rights for these sure-fire box-office hits (if they are ever released in theatres). And it looks like the streaming platform is not just resting on the laurels of its achievements and seems to have landed yet another South-Indian film – the Prithviraj starring Malayalam thriller, ‘Kuruthi’.
There has been no official announcement yet – either from the production company or the streaming platform but our sources are confident about the movie releasing directly for streaming on Amazon Prime Video and has also managed to get a release state for the movie. The movie is expected to release late next month (by the beginning of the third week of August) – which is better than the months we will probably have to wait before the movie releases in theatres (if it had opted for a theatrical release).
‘Kuruthi‘ which means ritualistic sacrifice, is a Malayalam socio-political thriller that was expected to release in theatres earlier this year. Of course, like all other movies before it, ‘Kuruthi’ too felt the harsh reality of the coronavirus pandemic and the production company has decided to release the movie directly for streaming. With the recent success South-Indian films have found on Amazon Prime Video, there is no better time to premiere the movie directly for streaming on the OTT platform.
As per reports, the Prithviraj starring thriller ‘Kuruthi‘ is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 20th 2021. Check out the trailer for the film down below:
