In a first of sorts for the Indian film industry, Aamir Khan launched the first trailer for his buzzy, upcoming film, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ in the finals of the cricketing spectacle, the IPL 2022 this evening. The film releases in theatres on August 11, which makes it just the right time to release the trailer. The ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ trailer promises a moving watch, designed to warm the cockles of the hearts of film lovers.
The Laal Singh Chaddha Trailer shows Aamir Khan’s titular character in different stages of life, overcoming myriad challenges. He doesn’t let his deformed legs hold him back – he runs, wins races, overcomes a learning disability, becomes an army officer, and more. And all because of his mother (played by Mona Singh), who never allows him to feel that he’s different. The trailer shows us glimpses of his lady love Roopa, played by Kareena Kapoor. Alas, we get no glimpse of Chaitanya Akkineni, who makes his Hindi film debut with Laal Singh Chaddha. The beautiful, lilting ‘Kahani’ track from the film, which was released earlier this year, features prominently in the trailer, as does the feather.
The Laal Singh Chaddha trailer is not as impactful as we expected it to be. Let’s hope the film, when it releases, is better.
Aamir Khan is not called Bollywood’s ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ for nothing. By launching the ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ trailer at the IPL finale, Aamir Khan has ensured that it grabs maximum eyeballs. After all, the IPL finals are the most-watched sporting event in the country. Also, by taking the offbeat route to launch the trailer, Aamir Khan has succeeded in creating massive buzz for ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. Aamir Khan’s perfectionist tactics for the marketing of his film are truly commendable.
It is common in the U.S. to release trailers of buzzy films during the Super Bowl. Now, Aamir Khan has set a precedent, maybe it’ll become common practice in India too, to release film trailers during the IPL.
Laal Singh Chaddha is the official remake of Tom Hanks’ cult Hollywood film, ‘Forrest Gump’. The film’s screenplay has been adapted by Atul Kulkarni. Forrest Gump’s original writer Eric Roth has co-written the script for Laal Singh Chaddha. Advait Chandan (Secret Superstar) has directed the film, while it is produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Viacom18 Studios and Paramount Pictures.
Laal Singh Chaddha stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya in prominent roles. Shah Rukh Khan has a cameo in the film.
