In 2018, perfectionist Aamir Khan purchased the rights of Academy Award fame, Forrest Gump. Most of his fans understood that the actor would play the Indian version of the iconic character in its Bollywood remake. A year later, he confirmed Laal Singh Chaddha opposite Kareena Kapoor.
The remake was ready to hit the theatres on Christmas last year. Unfortunately, its production work halted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, it is slated to dispatch on April 14, 2022. It will go one-on-one against the much anticipated KGF’s sequel.
Laal Singh Chaddha: Do we need its Indian remake?
The moment Aamir announced the purchasing of Forrest Gump’s rights from Paramount, the internet started flooding with the much-needed public opinion. Khan’s mega fanbase welcomed the FG’s remake with open arms. Others didn’t take this news very well. And they are right to show their concern.
Forrest Gump is Robert Zemeckis’ most prominent project ever. The brilliance of this movie lies in its simplicity. Veteran Tom Hanks’ exceptional performance is enough to win our hearts again and again. The way he performed with such sheer honesty and purity is a constant reminder of his infinite acting range.
There is no doubt that Aamir Khan is one of the greatest actors Bollywood has ever had. And he may be the most suitable man for this job. But we all know how bad this industry is when it comes to remakes. Projects like Bodyguard, Policegiri, Kyon Ki, Tevar, Players, God Tussi Great Ho, Action Replay, Yuvvraj, and countless more are the perfect examples of a complete waste of money and time.
Bollywood works on a dry-drained approach, especially when we are talking about remakes. Select a high-profile male actor, a good-looking actress, add some Bollywood masala elements to spice things up, and boom! You have a “spectacular” Indian remake ready to go. Wait, we almost forgot gravity-defying action sequences and a sexy item number.
However, we also have to admit that the case with Laal Singh Chaddha is slightly different from the rest of the remakes. First, we have Aamir Khan, giving all he has to make his projects flawless. Plus, we have Kareena Kapoor in the scenario. Either she can portray a role like Jenny (Robin Wright) or take this project in a whole new direction.
We are taking Kareena a bit more seriously than some of her previous project makers. Why? Well, this remake covers some important historical moments of India. It means that we can see the retro 70s or 80s settings in the movie. At that time, Indian women were not as free-spirited as our beloved Jenny. So, we can see Kareena doing a different role.
If we wrap this up, we can conclude that Laal Singh Chaddha heavily relies on the shoulders of Aamir Khan. Additionally, we have Advait Chauhan at the helm. His previous instalment, Secret Superstar, was a gigantic success, especially in the Chinese market. We can do nothing except hope that the director doesn’t take the worn-out Bollywood approach for this remake.
Laal Singh Chaddha: Who do we have in the cast?
In addition to the cast members mentioned above, we have Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya to grace our screens. Furthermore, cameo appearances from Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan are one of the prime highlights of this project.
