Yesterday was a super busy day at Prime Video. The streaming giant organised a grand event in Mumbai where they announced 40 new titles.
There are 22 new original series, 4 films and many more on the list. They are spread across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Meanwhile, fans of Malayalam and Kannada content are still wondering for one title which would cover their language?
But alas!!
Currently, the row between Ajay Devgn and Kiccha Sudeep is hot and the film industry war seems to have been converted into a language war. It is highly unfortunate as India has always been a home to uncountable dialects and languages and we must celebrate that diversity.
But a problem is indeed ignited if the Entertainment industry, which is MOSTLY language-specific, ignores a particular language. It happens with Malayalam and on an even greater magnitude in Kannada.
Prime Video is the second only to Disney+Hotstar if we consider the subscriber base and they do have a significant number of subscribers from Karnataka and Kerala.
So the question is legit. Why is Kannada and Malayalam content ignored?
There is hardly any doubt that the Malayalam film industry is the best performing industry with path-breaking brilliant cinema.
Kannada film industry recently gave a mammoth success in the name of KGF Chapter 2, thus not only those two languages have innovation but also a big audience.
No disrespect to Hindi, Tamil or Telugu but Indian OTT demands more diversity and they should be guaranteed that.
