The trailer of much-awaited ‘Bell Bottom’ was released by the makers last evening. The espionage thriller directed by Ranjit Tiwari, features Akshay as the dashing RAW agent, along with Huma Qureshi, Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Adil Hussain in pivotal roles. Inspired by true events, the movie is based on the plane hijacks that took India by storm back in the 1980s. While Vaani Kapoor plays Kumar’s wife, Lara Dutta plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Since the trailer was out, Lara has been highly praised for her physical transformation. It has since then become a huge discussion on social media that it was hard to spot Lara as the iconic Mrs. Gandhi.
At the trailer launch, Lara Dutta even asked the media present to guess her role, saying, “If anyone is able to guess, then I will take all their family members free to the theatres.” Her make up artist deserves to be applauded for the feat achieved, since #LaraDutta has been trending on Twitter post the trailer’s release.
Speaking of her character, the actress said, “Okay, so you did see me in the trailer. I’m playing Mrs. Indira Gandhi in the film. That’s me. All it took was a call and they said that Lara, this film is being made and we are casting you for Indira Gandhi’s role. That is all it took, before I even heard the script. But yes, of course, there is a great responsibility when you’re portraying somebody who is an iconic figure like her.”
She further added that she had to do a lot of homework for the role, “As you all know, the film deals with a hijack situation that happened during her tenure. Given the dramatic events that were unfolding, she was somebody who was extremely centred and not really prone to any dramatics. So it was important to portray her in that form. I had a great time. There was a lot of homework and research that went behind it. But it was an opportunity of a lifetime that I’m thankful for.”
Written by Aseem Arora and Parveez Shaikh, the film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikhil Advani. It was reported earlier that cinema theatres and multiplexes in Maharashtra would remain shut until further notice. The makers of ‘Bell Bottom’ had planned the film’s release based on the assumption that theatres would be open, since Maharashtra constitutes for nearly 30% of a film’s profits. There is however, some respite for the makers, now that theaters are to reportedly re-open from the 15th of this month. Fans can now rejoice since it looks like the film will have a smooth release.
‘Bell Bottom’ was the first movie to start and finish shooting during the pandemic and will be among the first few films to release theatrically post the second wave of Covid. Well, we laud the makers for their patience, since the film has been ready for nine months and is now all set to release on 19th August at a theatre near you!
