At a time when Indians want to be more American than the Americans themselves, it is not a very rare event for Indians to be excited about an American movie. However, more exciting is a kind of film when Americans are telling Indian stories. Monkey Man falls exactly under that category.
The movie was released in April on the Big Screens and earned in big numbers. Backed by Jordan Peele, the movie earned over $30 Million which is thrice its budget. Of course, it is a very small-budget movie so even $30 Million is a big deal. Sadly, the movie was never really released in India. The movie failed to get a clearance from CBFC that resulted in it not getting any Indian theater. Even talking about Digital Release, there was no luck.
To sum it up, the film was never really released in India OFFICIALLY.
But, did it stop Indians from watching it?
Not really.
It is one of the most pirated movies in India. Almost everyone who wanted to watch it has already watched it. But, there is a last option for the movie to be released.
Monkey Man will be released on Peacock on the 14th of June. As you may already know, Peacock is not available in India. However, all the Peacock content ultimately streams on JioCinema. So, there might be a chance that Monkey Man arrives on JioCinema although it is a slim chance. Let’s keep you posted.
