The highly anticipated third film instalment from the Harry Potter spin-off film series, ‘Fantastic Beasts’ has not been having a good marketing campaign so far. The fallout from the second film has been huge which caused many to confirm the same thing about this series – it is cash grab movie series. The Johnny Depp replacement and JK Rowling’s transphobic comments have not helped the film’s promotion either. However, if there is one thing Harry Potter (HP) fans have a problem with, it is making continuity errors in the films. And that is what the latest HP trailer seems to have done. Check out the full trailer at the end of this article.
The ‘Minerva McGonagall’ continuity error from the second film in the Warner Bros. franchise, ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Dumbledore’ is something that still irks HP fans to this day. In the movie, we are shown Minerva McGonagall making an appearance in the film, which is set in the year 1927. However, according to her Pottermore biography, the Transfiguration professor was born on October 4th 1935. Which, you might have figured, caused quite an uproar.
Now, while the continuity error found in the trailer is not as big as the aforementioned one – it is still a significant one. In the trailer, we see Albus Dumbledore waiting for the gang (the first members of his vigilante group, The Order of the Phoenix) in a room, which Newt calls the room they require. If the room is what we think it is, then it is “The Room of Requirement”. But according to the book, while Albus Dumbledore knows of the room’s existence, he doesn’t know how to operate it. He even mentions this to Harry during the Yule Ball in his fourth year. So this is a major plot hole – since Albus could have used this knowledge to help (and track) Draco Malfoy in his sixth year (among other things).
The third instalment of the Harry Potter spin-off series, ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore‘ will release in theatres in April 2022 in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu.
