After the successful run of Hansal Mehta’s first ever Netflix series ‘Scoop’, the acclaimed filmmaker has now extended the partnership further with a multi-year series deal with the global streaming giant.
‘Scoop’ premiered earlier this month on Netflix and is based on the book ‘Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison’ written by Jigna Vora. The series follows the real life story of Jigna Vora who was accused of murder of another reporter in 2011.
Starring Karishma Tanna, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Harman Baweja, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deven Bhojwani, ‘Scoop’ is the first season of the franchise and received great acclaim for the performances, direction and screenplay.
As part of this new collaboration Hansal Mehta will create multiple series for Netflix over the next few years. According to Mehta, “Netflix is engaged in the creative process right from the scripting, all the way to its marketing and distribution which is critical for the success of any creative collaboration. This long term partnership with them is only going to empower me to dive into a variety of undiscovered stories.”
Hansa Mehta is well known for his acclimated projects like ‘Shahid’ for which he won the National Film Award for best direction, ‘City Lights’, ‘Aligarh’, ‘Omerta’ and more. His smashing hit series ‘Scam 1992’ was a game changer all together.
