Netflix confirmed the production of its latest spy-thriller ‘Munich’ starring Academy award winning veteran actor Jeremy Irons. The film directed by Christian Schwochow (The Crown, Bad Banks) is based on an international best-selling book by the best-selling author Robert Harris.
‘Munich’ is set in the Autumn of 1938 when Europe was on the brink of war. The official logline by Netflix reads, “Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and Neville Chamberlain’s government desperately seeks a peaceful solution. With the pressure building, Hugh Legat, British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, German diplomat, travel to Munich for the emergency Conference. As negotiations begin, the two old friends find themselves at the centre of a web of political subterfuge and very real danger. With the whole world watching, can war be averted and, if so, at what cost?”
Written by Ben Power (The Lehman Trilogy, The Hollow Crown) Netflix’s ‘Munich’ will star Jeremy Irons as Neville Chamberlain, George MacKay as Hugh Legat, Jannis Niehwöhner as Paul Hartman, Sandra Heller as Helen Winter, Liv Lisa Fries as Lenya, August Diehl as Franz Sauer, Erin Doherty as Pamela Legat and Martin Wuttke as Adolf Hitler.
Talking about ‘Munich’ and Jeremy Irons, Robert Harris said, “It’s great to see an actor of Jeremy Irons’s stature playing Neville Chamberlain. This will be the first time a major movie has gone beyond the cult of Winston Churchill and tried to show Chamberlain in a more sympathetic light.”
Jeremy Irons was last seen in the hit HBO mini-series ‘Watchmen’ (2019). The Oscar winning actor is known for his roles in ‘Dead Ringers’ (1988), ‘Reversal of Fortune’ (1990), ‘Die Hard with a Vengeance’ (1995), ‘Assassin’s Creed’ (2016), ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ (2016), ‘Justice League’ (2017) and many more.
‘Munich’ has been produced by ‘The Crown’ producer Andrew Eaton through his Turbine Studios. The spy-thriller film is currently shooting in Germany and will also film in UK later. ‘Munich’ is set for a 2021 release only on Netflix.
