Mobile Manufacturing Company Viva has come up with a new report which throws light on the mobile watching habits of Indians, particularly during the Lockdown. CyberMedia Research (CMR) has done this survey for Vivo with 2,000 respondents.
The study named Smartphones and their impact on human relationships 2020′ says the country is spending more time on a smartphone since Lockdown – OTT (59 percent), social media (55 percent), and gaming (45 percent).
People have no choices to increase their screen time due to the limited or absence of entertainment options during the Lockdown. And rightly, that has led to the boom of the OTT platforms and content. The survey respondents say that the daily time spent by the people on their smartphones has increased by 25 percent on average during the pandemic.
However, that did not come up without riders – nearly 70 percent of Indians feel that the smartphone’s increased usage is likely to impact their mental/physical health. At the same time, 66% believed that the smartphone improved the quality of their lives. While the impact on the mental and physical health of the people is worrisome, the underline aspect of the findings is the increase of OTT penetration in India, and this is likely to go a long way from here as the OTT industry already set itself as a parallel industry to the film industry.
