Lijo Jose Pellissery is arguably the most popular director brand from Malayalam Cinema. With a filmography spanning across more than 10 years and 8 feature film credits up his sleeve, Lijo has cemented a contemporary auteur’s position in Indian Cinema. His 9th feature film “Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam” marks his first collaboration with megastar Mammootty. Quite expectedly this collaboration is one of the most awaited outings of the year.
The makers had previously dropped official posters and a teaser prior but with no release date attached to it. Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam later got listed for world premiere at the 27th International Film Festival of Kerala (December 9th-16th). The film will be screened as part of the Competition Section at the prestigious film festival and the official world premiere date is out now. The film premieres on 12th December with screenings on 13th and 14th respectively.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam centres around Velan played by Mammootty, who leads a double life: as a cycle mechanic by day and a thief by night. He escaped his hometown in Kerala following a murder. But Velan’s past comes back to hunt his new-found life. Supposedly a crime-thiller/drama, the film has managed to keep inquisitiveness intact amongst the audience.
Created and directed by Lijo Jose, the film’s script is written by S Hareesh. Ramya Pandian and Ashokan co-star alongside Mammootty in major roles. The film marks the reunion of Mammootty and Ashokan onscreen after 30 years.The last time Mammootty and Ashokan shared screen space was for the 1991 film Amaram.
The film is produced by Mammootty himself under his newly launched production house Mammootty Kampany. Theni Eswar handles the cinematography. Lijo Jose Pellissery’s next project is a untitled sports film starring Mohanlal. More details regarding the timing and location of Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam IFFK screenings are attached below.
