Lionsgate Play, the OTT platform owned by the Lionsgate film production studios, has formally launched in India today as a new, standalone streaming platform. The studio is also the owner of the Starz TV, a pay-TV network in the USA and runs the StarzPlay streaming service in more than 26 countries. Lionsgate has plans to expand into 55 countries soon. The new OTT platform will include original content from Lionsgate Studio’s expansive library of films, as well as original series from Starz TV.
With an aim to grab maximum eyeballs in the cluttered Indian OTT space, Lionsgate Play will also develop high quality Indian original shows. The company has roped in Bollywood star Anil Kapoor and directors Kunal Kohli, Akarsh Khurana and Mukesh Bhatt as of now, to help it to develop original shows in India.
Lionsgate Play content was earlier available in India through its tie up with various entertainment and telecom platforms such as Jio, Airtel Xstream and Vodafone Play. The Lionsgate Play OTT subscription will be available at a cost of Rs. 99 for a month, and Rs. 699 for the annual subscription. The OTT is betting big on India. Which is why all its content comes with regional languages support. A number of its titles are available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, and Bhojpuri dubbed versions.
Lionsgate is well-known among Indian viewers for its popular film titles such as The Hunger Games series of films, the John Wick series, The Twilight Saga, the Transporter series, Rambo, American Psycho, among a host of others.
