Sony Pictures is taking its slate of movies adapted from video games to yet another level. The latest video game that is set to get the feature film treatment is Nintendo’s popular video game ‘The Legend Of Zelda’. The news was posted on social media by Nintendo, and shared by Sony Pictures.
The film adaptation of ‘The Legend Of Zelda’ comes after years of planning and strategising to get the film rolling. The video game is an action-adventure extravaganza, created by Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka.
Producers Sony Pictures has already signed up the primary crew for the live-action ‘The Legend Of Zelda’ movie. Director Wes Ball will helm the movie, from a script written by screenwriter, Derek Connolly. Wes Ball is best known for directing the ‘Maze Runner’ series of films. He is also the director of the upcoming film ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’. Writer Derek Connolly has earlier written the scripts for films such as ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Detective Pikachu’.
The live-action ‘The Legend Of Zelda’ film will be produced by Sony Pictures, along with Nintendo as co-producers. There’s no word on the actors that will form the cast of the movie. Fans have been clamouring for British actor Tom Holland to be picked for the role of Link, the lead protagonist in the video games.
Sony Pictures has been betting big on video game adaptations in recent times. It has already released HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ TV show, Tom Holland’s ‘Uncharted’ movie, and Peacock’s ‘Twisted Metal’ series in the last two years. Additionally, Sony has three live-action TV series currently in development – the ‘Gods Of War’ games franchise, the ‘Horizon’ games and the ‘Gran Turismo’ franchise, and a movie on ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ from the director of John Wick, among others.
