Netflix’s new documentary true crime documentary flick, ‘Lover, Stalker, Killer’, has become a surprise hit on the streaming platform. Released on February 9, 2024, this documentary explores Dave Kroupa’s 2012 dating journey turning into a shocking and twisting love triangle tale.
Helmed by Sam Hobkinson, ‘Lover, Stalker, Killer’, analyses the story of Dave, a Nebraska-based auto mechanic, and divorcee who chooses online dating in hopes of finding a new love. Soon, he commences casual relationships with two different women, Cari and Liz. Both females were single moms with amazing personalities.
Dave’s online dating journey should have been a great opportunity for him to enjoy a second chance at casual romance. However, all hell breaks loose once his story of casual romance turns into a shocking tale of a love triangle, putting him and all his loved ones at great risk. The documentary project uses a blend of real-life footage, interviews of law enforcement officers, and reenacted scenes to give a viewing experience brimmed with suspense and tension.
On Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Movies) list, the documentary film has earned over 10 million views with over 15.1 million hours of viewing within its first week of release, outperforming the likes of Minions, Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, American Assassin, The Devil Wears Prada, and Lift. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a ‘fresh’ critic score of 100% (based on eight reviews) and an audience score of 79% (based on over 50 reviews).
