Disney is trying their level best to test the limits of their fans with content such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is basically unwatchable except for the last 15 minutes, to flooding the platforms with more Star Wars content. The dilemma does exist there.
But, for a change, it was the Game Of Thrones and 3 Body Problem creators who made an attempt to make a film in the Star Wars Universe.
During a recent interview, David Benioff stated that they had plans to do a Star Wars film. “We wanted to do The First Jedi, basically how the Jedi Order came to be, why it came to be, the first lightsaber …”
And then Dan Weiss added with a pinch of disappointment, “And we were annoyed as hell when Rian Johnson, [the duo’s longtime friend and 3BP producer], called his movie The Last Jedi. He completely destroyed the obvious title for what we were working on.”
“[Lucasfilm] ended up not wanting to do a First Jedi story. We had a very specific story idea in mind, and ultimately they decided they didn’t want to do that. And we totally get it. It’s their company and their IP, but we weren’t the droids they were looking for.”
Though the GOT creators have shifted their minds from doing a Star Wars film, it might still happen as Lucasfilm did announce a film called Dawn of the Jedi under James Mangold.
A Jedi origin story will definitely be fun amidst all the overflowing Star Wars content, but again, it makes the problem even more solid. Quality, Quantity, there definitely should be a balance, and content like Star Wars, Marvel, or DC, they are nowhere near understanding it.
And DO NOT MAKE STAR WARS THE NEW MCU, at least that’s a prayer fan should make.
