Actor Madhavan and Shraddha Srinath’s Maara is the latest Tamil film that will skip its theatrical release and released online directly on Amazon Prime Video. The film is scheduled to Premiere on the leading OTT Platform, Amazon Prime Video on 17th December 2020 as Christmas Special. Madhavan already had a direct release on Prime Video with Nishabdham but it failed to impress the audience.
The film directed by Dhilip Kumar is the remake of the Malayalam film Charlie (2015) by Martin Prakkat. Dulquer Salman stared in the Original which was a hit back when it released. The director claims that Maara is not actually a remake but is an adaptation of Charlie.
Dhilip was initially on board the project as a writer but was later given a chance to direct the film. Incidentally, the young filmmaker directed a short film called Kalki in 2017 for the same production house. AL Vijay was supposed to direct the film initially.
Maara is all about a woman who runs away from home to avoid getting married and rents a room to stay. She finds a sketchbook of the previous occupant, which reveals an incomplete story, and decides to find the artist. The rest is about the various shades in the artist’s lifestyle. The film also stars stand-up comedian Alexander Babu and veteran actor Moulee.
