Just a few days back, we had apprised our readers that Mahesh Narayanan’s critically acclaimed slice-of-life drama movie ‘Ariyippu’ aka ‘Declaration’ was a part of the premium line-up at the ongoing Busan International Film Festival (BIFF 2022) under the segment ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’. The film is set to be screened there on 12th October, that is, today.
Before its BIFF 2022 screening, the Malayalam language Indian movie ‘Ariyippu’ made its world premiere at the 2022 edition of Locarno Film Festival where the film was nominated for the coveted top prize – the Golden Leopard award. And since then, the movie has garnered admiration from several film critics. Besides, ‘Ariyippu’ is also being screened at the BFI London Film Festival.
And now, as per the latest update, ‘Ariyippu’ will soon have its direct-to-OTT global release on the Netflix OTT platform after completing its festival run. This will make it the first ever direct-to-OTT movie release for the film’s lead actor Kunchacko Boban. As of now, the exact streaming date for ‘Ariyippu’ on Netflix is not confirmed. Stay tuned to Binged for ‘Ariyippu’ Netflix OTT release date.
Written, directed, and edited by Mahesh Narayanan, ‘Ariyippu’ aka ‘Declaration’ revolves around an immigrant and struggling married couple Harish (played by Kunchacko Boban) and Reshmi (Divya Prabha) who are from Kerala and presently working near Delhi in a medical gloves factory. They want to go to a foreign country for better job prospects and a comfortable life. But, after an old video featuring Reshmi gets manipulated and goes viral, the couple’s relationship and their jobs come under severe stress.
