As we eagerly await the #ValimaiGlimpse this evening, there are reports of a major shuffle taking place this festive season! Some big-ticket blockbuster Tamil movies are said to be contemplating a change in their release dates. It is said that the makers of ‘Valimai‘ pushed the film’s release date to Pongal 2022 to avoid clashing with films releasing this Diwali on purely ethical grounds, considering the current situation and pressure on filmmakers to recover costs. The major scheduled releases currently for Diwali are Silambarasan‘s ‘Maanaadu‘ and Rajnikanth‘s ‘Annaatthe‘, although there is strong buzz that the latter may be pushed to release on Pongal next year along with ‘Valimai’.
Another strong rumour doing the rounds is that the makers of the Arya–Vishal starrer ‘Enemy‘, are also looking at postponing the release of the film, from Dussehra to Diwali. Furthermore, it is also being said that they are considering their options for a direct to OTT release and are in talks with several platforms for the same. Poor collections of the recent theatrical releases may be responsible for the shift in mindset. Although nothing is confirmed as yet, there are strong rumours which suggest these changes.
If this happens to be true, we will see a face-off between Rajnikanth and Ajith after all, as their movies ‘Annaatthe’ and ‘Valimai’ clash in January for Pongal. Similarly, if the makers of ‘Enemy’ feel that pushing the release date could guarantee better collections, we are likely to see a Diwali clash between ‘Maanaadu’ and ‘Enemy’ at the very least. Apart from these films, the other major anticipated films awaiting a release date are Suriya’s ‘Etharkkum Thuninthavan’, Vikram’s ‘Mahaan’ and Prabhudeva’s ‘Bagheera’.
