Netflix’s ‘Strangers Things’ is set to end with its fifth season. After having a glorious run right from its first season, the series didn’t take much time to become a pop culture sensation. The final season will reportedly be a culmination of what we got to see in the previous seasons, with the makers deciding to emphasize on what made the sci-fi show such a big success: it’s well-written and relatable characters.
What a good series needs primarily is not great VFX or a brilliant cast, but a well-written story and screenplay. Without the latter, the former two would just crumble down like a house of cards. And its well-written script and characters were the biggest asset to one of Netflix’s most valuable IPs: ‘Stranger Things’. While the premise was an interesting and intriguing one, the characters were the core of the series. Their friendship, love, bravery, courage, insecurities… to simply put it, one of the biggest TV series of all time was, at its heart, a human story set in a fictional universe. And in a great choice, the makers are going back to the basics to give the characters and story a deserving farewell.
The upcoming fifth season will reportedly be focussed on giving its characters their wholesome character arcs alongside tying up many loose ends. But does that mean the series will be taking away from its scale and world of monsters? Worry not. The series and storytelling will be ably supported by the required scale. The season is confirmed to have as big a scale as the previous one.
While the season will end the story of Eleven and her friends, the world-building of the Stranger Things universe is just beginning. With multiple projects set in the same fictional world in works at Netflix, we are not paying farewell to the Upside anytime soon.
